I just love God! He never ceases to amaze me. Lately He’s been opening my eyes to some pretty incredible things.
One thing in particular is that it finally dawned on me that just recently God answered a prayer that I prayed many, many years ago. So long ago, that I had forgotten it. I had forgotten how deep the hurt was, how I cried out to God in my anguish, how I pleaded for Him to do something. The situation seemed impossible, hopeless, dead. So I quit praying about it. Eventually I moved on and forgot about it.
But now I know that God never forgot about it.
I know that our Father hears every prayer ever uttered by His children. And He LOVES to answer our prayers! But He also knows what is best in the whole picture of our lives and eternity. So sometimes His answers seem a long time in coming…but He never forgets. Even when we forget. Even when we give up. Even when hope has died and faith sits still. He never forgets. He is faithful.
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” -Isaiah 49:15
I think of Elizabeth and Zechariah, who prayed earnestly for a child for many, many years. But they grew old in barrenness. I doubt they forgot their prayer of so many years, but I imagine they gave up on it. Until one day a mighty angel promised a miracle child! God had not forgotten.
Or I think of the Jews who were scattered to Assyria and Babylon. Living in a foreign land, did they keep praying to be restored? Or did they give up and settle for simply existing, so far from their homeland? Little knowing that God was already preparing the way for their return and restoration. He did not forget them, no matter how many times they forgot Him.
I think we can’t possibly conceive,
…how deeply He loves us!
…how He delights in doing things for us and in us!
I’m still amazed and in awe of how God has answered the cry of my heart from all those years ago. An answer so worth waiting for!
I know sometimes God’s answer is “no.” And truly, that’s good too, because it is an answer, and because our Father always does what is best for us.
But how many times does it seem like there’s no answer? So we give up, move on and wonder why God won’t answer our prayers…little knowing that He has already answered every prayer in eternity. We just haven’t seen the answer arrive yet in our experience of time.
I believe that our heavenly Father is ALWAYS at work in our lives, even when we can’t or don’t see it.
I encourage you this week to ask Jesus to give you open eyes and listening ears to His work in your life. You might be surprised at what He reveals.
Thank you Father for amazing me afresh this week! Thank you for hearing and for answering our every prayer, in the best way and time. Help us to continually see and rejoice in what an awesome God you are! Amen.
